AI coastal insights

A future 'plays' feed that turns tides, currents, wind, swell, river flows, and moon phase into plain-language guidance — like 'standing waves likely at the mouth of Cook Inlet this afternoon' or 'exceptional clamming window Thursday morning at Ninilchik.'

How "plays" work

A "play" is a short, opinionated statement about what the coastal data means for a specific activity — distilled from multiple signals. Example plays might include:

Clamming
GREAT
Minus 2.4 ft low @ 7:12 AM Thu · 45 min after sunrise · Light winds
Halibut charter
MARGINAL
Seas 5–7 ft · Slack current 9 AM but building swell by noon
Cook Inlet crossing
AVOID
Strong ebb + NE wind 20 kt = standing waves likely at the mouth
Photography
WINDOW
Minus tide 5:48 AM · Full moon set · Predicted clear sky AM
Implementation path

v1 will be entirely rule-based at build time — the same NOAA and NDBC APIs already used across the app. An AI/LLM layer can later generate human-readable copy for each play window, making them more contextual and local in tone.
